Interview with Nikolay Kutyin - Digital Nomad

What initially inspired you to embrace the digital nomad lifestyle, and how did you begin your journey?

My journey into digital nomadism was sparked by a deep-seated desire for freedom and exploration.

I was initially inspired by reading stories of others who had broken free from the traditional 9-5 mold. I began my journey by simplifying my life, embracing minimalism, and transitioning to remote work.

Can you share some of the key challenges you faced in the early stages and how you managed to overcome them?
It's important to believe in yourself at the beginning of your journey. My favorite phrase: "it's all in your head". Biggest challenges in the early stages were adapting to constant change and finding reliable workspaces and internet connectivity. I overcame these by developing a flexible mindset and using online resources to find nomad-friendly locations.

How do you maintain a balance between work, travel, and personal time? Are there specific strategies or routines that help you?
Maintaining balance requires discipline. I set clear work hours, ensure regular exercise, and allocate time for exploration. Using productivity tools and staying organized also helps immensely.

Your Instagram showcases a variety of destinations. How do these diverse experiences influence your work and creativity?
Every destination offers new perspectives and inspirations. The diverse cultures, landscapes, and people I encounter enrich my creativity and broaden my worldview, positively impacting my work.

Based on your travels, which destinations would you recommend for new digital nomads and why?
For new digital nomads, I recommend starting with destinations that are known to be nomad-friendly, such as Montenegro, Spain, or Cyprus. These places offer a blend of culture, community, and connectivity.

Building a network and community is important for digital nomads. How do you approach this while constantly moving?
Building Networks: I focus on being part of local communities and attending networking events. Social media and online forums are also great for connecting with fellow nomads.

What are some essential tools or resources that you rely on to manage your work and lifestyle effectively?
Reliable gadgets, cloud-based applications for work, VPN for security, and apps for travel and accommodation are essential. Staying organized digitally is key.

How do you ensure that your travel is sustainable and respectful towards the cultures and environments you visit?
I always research and respect local customs, choose eco-friendly accommodations, and minimize my environmental footprint by traveling slowly and consciously.

What advice would you give to individuals inspired by your lifestyle and considering a leap into digital nomadism?
Start with thorough research and a solid plan, but be prepared for the unexpected. Embrace flexibility and be open to learning from every experience.

What are your future plans or aspirations as a digital nomad? Are there any specific destinations or projects you are excited about?
I plan to explore new destinations, compare cultures, and experience the different mindsets of various nations in different regions of the globe. I'll be thrilled to visit North America and also those countries I haven't had the chance to explore yet. As of now, by the end of 2023, there are only 20 in my list. I hope to maintain this pace and add at least 3 new countries each year ;)
